Forget birthdays, anniversaries and holidays—here are the REALLY important dates to circle on the calendar in 2021. (Warning: If you like whisky, this is a very dangerous list.)
February 6: International Pisco Sour Day (It’s a Peruvian thing, apparently)
February 8: International Scotch Day
February 18: Global Drink Wine Day (Which may as well be Global Drink Water Day, because, you know, it’s hard to go without.)
February 22: International Margarita Day
February 24: World Bartender Day
March 3: International Irish Whiskey Day (I’ll have barely recovered from Scotch Day)
March 3: Mulled Wine Day (Please don’t double up with the Irish Whisky folks)
March 5: National Absinthe Day (US) (I think we’re allowed to celebrate it in Canada too)
March 13: Riesling’s Birthday (Seriously, that’s what they call it.)
March 27: International Whisky Day (Because there’s more to celebrate than just Irish whisky, right?)
April 17: World Malbec Day
April 20: California Wine Fair (Beanfield Centre, Toronto) (We’ll see if this happens, given the pandemic. Crossing fingers it doesn’t get cancelled again.)
May 1: International Sauvignon Blanc Day
May 9: World Moscato Day
May 13: World Cocktail Day
May 15: World Whisky Day (Wait, what? Didn’t we just have International Whisky Day?)
May 27: International Chardonnay Day
June 4: International Cognac Day
June 5: Pelee Island Winery Half-Marathon (I’m not sure if this is the way you want to hydrate during or after a marathon, but to each his own)

June 11: World Lambrusco Day
June 12: World Gin Day

July 22: Shiraz Day
July 23-25: International Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration (i4C) (Niagara, Ontario)
July 24: World Tequila Day
August 1-5: International Albariño Days (Totally unfair that this wine gets 5 days.)

August 30: World Mai Tai Day
September 2: International Cabernet Day
September 17: International Grenache Day
September 17-26: Niagara Wine Festival
October 4: International Vodka Day
October 9: International Pinotage Day
October 15: Champagne Day (Don’t feel compelled to wait this long.)
October 19: International Gin & Tonic Day
October 28: Carignan Day (If you don’t know this red grape, it’s really worth trying.)
November 1: Ottawa Wine & Food Festval
November 1: International Xinomavro Day (It’s all Greek to me!)
November 7: International Merlot Day
November 11: International Tempranillo Day
November 17: National Zinfandel Day (It’s an American celebration, but don’t tell anyone.)
November 18: International Poitín Day (It’s a traditional Irish distilled beverage…as though all those whisky days weren’t enough)
November 18: Beaujolais Nouveau Day (a.k.a. The worst Gamay Noir you will taste this year)
November 24: Carmenère Day
December 4: Cabernet Franc Day (OK, personally, this may have been my 40th Cabernet Franc Day by this point.)
December 20: Sangria Day (In other words, take all that leftover red wine from those previous days and mix it with a bunch of chopped fruit.)
